Tips and Tricks

Inclusions

All camping sites and permits are booked and paid by us. All breakfasts, generally a cooked breakfast or cereal, are supplied by us every day. Welcome and farewell dinners are supplied as well. Morning tea, lunches etc are self catered. 

Cruises,special activities icludedon the Itinerary are a partof the tour and paid by us.

Activities listed as optional are not paid by us and need tio be arranged by the tourer.


Vehicle

It is advisable to have your vehicle thoroughly checked and serviced prior to your departure on any of our tours, whether for one week or a longer tour of 4 weeks. We will be travelling on mainly dirt roadsand remote areas. 


Their conditions do vary greatly depending on recent weather. Big Sky Tagalong Tours will keep you up to date with any necessary changes due to weather conditions. It is also advisable that you have the highest possible cover for Roadside Assistance, as this may be the only way to recover your vehicle if a serious breakdown occurs.


Spares

Please bring along any necessary spares for your vehicle. Below is list for you to consider.


• Workshop Manual

• Spare fuses

• Tyre Pressure gauge

• Spare Bolts/ Nuts/ Washers

• Suitable spanners

• Spare keys (not in the glovebox)

• Tyre repair kit

• Jerry Cans (if applicable)

• Spare fuel & air filters

• Fan Belts

• Fire Extinguisher

• Air compressor

• Spare oil/brake fluid

• UHF Radio (mandatory)


If you are ever unsure on how or what to check please ask your mechanic before you leave, or alternatively we will be able to help when you are on the tour.


Recovery Equipment – Basic Kit

Even though this is not Cape York, weather can play a huge role in turning a good dirt road into a swamp.

Be sure your vehicle is fitted with rated recovery points.

•Rated Snatch Strap

•Two Rated and Stamped Shackles

•Long Handle Shovel

•Jack and jacking plate

•Maxtrax or Treds (optional)


Fuel

Diesel and petrol are widely available at all towns along the route. However LPG is only available in major centres. Prices may be higher in some areas so please allow for this. You may wish to consider carrying 20 litres of extra fuel, depending on the economy of your vehicle.
