What type of vehicle is suitable?
For our off road tours, any 4WD that has reasonable ground clearance and a high/low transfer case. All wheel drive vehicles are suitable for our on road tours only.
We have never been four wheel driving before, does this matter?
Your guide has many years of 4WD experience and heavy vehicle logistics, so is well equipped to guide you to use some basic 4WD skills while on Tour. As our Tours are about the adventure of exploring Australia and not hard core 4WD you can be confident that your experience will be an enjoyable one with some new skills learned.
Do I need to modify my vehicle?
No, however, a snorkel is a good idea as it raises the air intake from under the guard area to near top of windscreen height. This will provide cleaner air to the engine intake on unsealed roads therefore keeps the air filter clearer therefore lower risk of dirt in motor.
We require you to have a UHF radio for communication during theTour. This could either be hard wired into your vehicle or a good hand held will suffice. (Please ask us for advice before buying if you go the hand held option, to ensure strong enough model)
For our off road tours, we do suggest a quality set of springs and shock absorbers, as well as all terrain tyres. We recommend that your tyres have at least 50% tread. Call us for advice.
What sort of camper or caravan is suitable?
For our off road tours, we only allow heavy duty off road camper trailers or caravans. All caravans or camper trailers must be in a roadworthy condition.
How long do we drive each day?
We try not to travel more than 250 – 300km each day. We usually discuss the day’s events at our morning briefing sessions before departure. We are normally on the road before 9.00am each morning and stop for lunch between 12pm-1pm. We stop at all points of interest throughout the day and set up camp well before sunset.
If our vehicle breaks down on the tour what happens?
We have mindset of leaving no-one behind,so where possible we like to assit our tourers to continue to journey with us and take the time when needed to help those having any issue along the way. Ermes has a extensive knowledge and experience with deisel motors a a fitter.
We recommend you carry some essential spares, some suggestions are listed in our preparation list. We also recommend that your vehicle is serviced and checked fully before any majortripwit us, as we are travelling very remotely on most of our tours. With your consent we will provide assistance to assess the issue and repair or enable you to get you to get to next repair stationfor proper repair.
If the vehicle is not able to be repaired or moved we will assist you to arrange for recovery to a place of safety for follow upon your repairs.
We strongly recommend you have top cover with your state motoring association,this may assist with some of the recovery costs in this situation.
Are children welcome?
Most definitely. Children can have fun and learn a great deal about the environment, flora and fauna, as well as a bit of history. All children are given a travel pack for the trip.
What if I fall ill?
We are equipped with a HF radio for emergencies which connects to the Royal Flying Doctors Service and other emergancy servicesnomatter where we are in Australia. It is more reliable than sattelite connection generally. The radio also has a GPS location feature which can be used any time, foremergencies or just back to base ping daily.
We carry a large Remote First Aid Kit and Mobile AED on board and a qualified First Aid person is always on Tour.
We require a Medical Form be completed for each Tourer which we carry on Tour in case of emergency.
If you require regular medicines (diabetes etc) be sure to have a sufficient supply.
What about pets?
Yes, we do allow pets on some tours.
What are our camping facilities?
Our tours provide a mixture of Caravan Parks, Campgrounds and Bush Camps.
All parks and campgrounds have toilets and showers, howver, the bush camps may vary with showering. We have onboard warm shower to cover all scerarios.
Every bush camp has a cooking fire and bbq plate available.
We have a slide out 4 burner BBQ in our trailer that is available for your use, just say the word and we will happily accommodate you.
Do we pay for lots of extras?
Our tours include many activities such as: Cave Tours, Cruises, and Admission Fees to Attractions. All these are listed on the Tour Itinerary.
Any Optional activities listed are not included in the Tour Price and are at your own expense.
These Optional activities are clearly noted on the Itinerary.
How do I book a tour?
Just Press the "Book Your Tour Now" button to complete your online booking. It only takes a few minutes and a Deposit is required with the booking.
If you prefer to do a Phone booking, we can processthe booking for yu and take your card details over the phone for the deposit.
You will receive an email confirmation, followed by a Welcome Pack when full payment is received.
It also contains the Itinerary and some maps to help you while we are on Tour.
How do we know what to pack?
When you complete your full payment for the booking, a Welcome Pack with all the information for the Tour will be sent to you on email.
It contains suggestions of food items and spare parts, camping requirements, hints on packing etc.

Your guide is a qualified 4wd and heavy vehicle trainer, so is well equipped to guide you with some basic skills. So if you are new to 4 wheel driving, you can be confident that your experience will be an enjoyable one with some new skills learnt.
